OK. So we got 'Best Use of Prop' and 'Best Use of Dialogue' and we came third in our city final. The short was also submitted in the Wildcard selection - so Peter Jackson has seen our film - but we didn't get through. The standard is really high judging by the films you can see on YouTube.

We're all naturally disappointed but 'One Man's War' is pretty good. So well done to them and good luck for the finals. I'm sure the coast will be putting up some good competition on Sunday 1st and TXTing madly for the Toko brothers.

There's a lot of 'discussion' going on in the 48hour forum about the Gisborne results here. Last time I looked it was the most active thread on the whole site. Classic.

I think our film was OK. We've certainly learned a lot and I think we'll be back with more 'edge' next year.

With only two and a half hours to go we are proud to say that we will be submitting a fabulous movie! I'm still tired, dyslexic and mentally challenged but not too done in to write a few thank yous...

Food and Drink
Thanks so much to Beatrice Ezpleleta and my hubby Phillip Ratapu for providing us with gorgeous catered meals! Thanks also to Ian Smail who provided the sumptuous wine for our wrap party. Thanks to Glenda Gibb who came in early this morning after a long hard day goforing and art directing yesterday to cook a nutritious breakfast for Ruth and Andre who've been furiously editing since last night.

Tip for all you would be film makers out there...beware of the people who rent chippers on a lovely Saturday afternoon...I am currently cixelsid...I mean dislexic and we todd it...I mean retarded from too much coffee and lack of sleep...however, here's a few teaser shots just to get your mouths wtaering...see what I mean!

While our good friends Darren and Trish at Champagne Catering felt desperately sorry for the starving artists that we are, they also felt incredibly enthusiastic about our entry into the 48-Hour Film competition. Don’t Call Us Productions proudly introduce the extra talent that will make this film a winner.
We have pulled together a group of extremely attractive and massively resourceful friends who, on the big day, will ignore our tantrums, disregard our bossiness and get on with doing what they do best: creating stuff, inventing stuff, finding stuff, and generally stuffing around. We welcome them warmly, and warn other 48-hour teams to keep their hands off our people!

Ian Smail: The Stuffmeister extraordinaire. A man with a shed full of stuff he just knew would come in handy one day. At a moments notice this stuff could be transformed into a castle, a German tank, or a deformed alien baby. Who needs Mitre Ten when we’ve got Mighty Ian!

Oscar Casley: Oscar has the stuff superstars are made of, and he’s sharing it with us!!!! With an established career in his band Twang Grunty, it was a real score nabbing Oscar to do sound, and he’s already pumping out the good stuff for us. We’re confident our film will be as good as it gets, even if you watch it with your eyes closed.

Phillip Ratapu: Directors Assistant with all the right stuff. Resourceful, calm under fire, a multitasking mega man who knows how to chill the ladies when we get a little bit crazy. He makes a mean kina sushi too, so we’re sure not to starve of anything with our superman Phillip around.
Melody Craw: Award winning costume and wearable art designer, Melody can make you look good in a tea towel and hibiscus tiara. Turned on by chaos and spontaneity, Melody is a woman born to the 48-Hour challenge. There’s stuff-all Mel doesn’t know about costuming or making props or creation of any kind, and we celebrate her.

Glenda Gibbs: If stuffs got to be gotten then Glenda will get it. Our gorgeous gofer who’s sweet smile and twinkley eyes would stop a super-stressor in their tracks. Glenda’s got access to the kinda stuff that’ll help us survive: Coffee, food, a hot water bottle, and kind words like “Pull yourself together you egomaniac”. She’s our camp mother, and we adore her.

Ingrid Walsh: Don’t ask Ingrid how she makes blood and brain matter – some things a best left a mystery. Our make-up magician, Ingrid has an established reputation in theatre make-up, but her favourite thing is making gore from stuff in her well-stocked pantry. Ingrid is creative behind the scenes, turning her talents to costumes and props and anything that requires the reworking of stuff.

Andrew Harvey: Boom-Boy. Andrew did a quick course in boom operation on the Internet last night. We know he definitely has the right stuff for this job: Tall, strong, handsome, extremely keen, and quite delusional about how this job will make him famous one day. A robust and calm natured man, Andrew is ready to be yelled at by the Director, and shoved aside by actors. He will do all this for a free coffee.

There's talk about Gisborne not getting accepted into the competition because there won't be enough teams from this area. I think we should still do the film even if we're not in the comp. I also think they will come up with a way for us to enter - be it ringing through the genre etc on Friday night and getting a JP to sign off our submission on Sunday night. Anyway, we're still doing it.
In other news the genre page has changed again with sub-genre's being suggested and the Secret Genre dropped. But who knows? The whole system seems pretty loose.
While I'm here - there's some great tips and advice over on the 48hour forums in all aspects of film production that is worth checking out.

Genre Update

The genre selection has been extended and the system for choosing the genre has changed too. Now there's a couple of choices with most genre's. e.g. you may get war or western as one choice, musical or dance; fairytale or puppet; romance or coming of age; science fiction or monster; religious or educational and two new ones: Unnecessary Sequel and Grindhouse. Grindhouse? WTF?? Are these people trying to be too clever?

Well we had another great meeting tonight...we can't tell you what we did because then we 'd have to kill you, but just the fact that I said that much online will probably get me arrested...but then again, I could just be Amerinoid (that's American paranoid...it's OK, I am American so I can say that).

What we can tell you is that the actual "GO" time is coming up fast...just under three weeks, DANG! So, we are busy getting our sheet together and figuring out who is gonna hold the boom and stuff like that. What is a boom you ask? Psssjjjtt! Look it up on Google!

The exciting stuff will happen when we are given the genre at 7:00 pm Friday the 18th of May! Will it be Blaxslpoitation? Pretentious Art Film? Horror? Splatter? Disney Family? or will we get the dreaded "SECRET GENRE"??? We don't know!

One more thing...we will be posting versions of our logo on this site and would appreciate some feedback...let us know if you think it's crap or if it is choice.

Graduating with a Dip of Audio Visual Technology from RMIT, this mysterious and elusive yet crafty cat has worked on many projects including TV, theatre and corporate DVD productions. In 2006 he worked as the Assistant Technical Manager for the 2006 Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Ruth I can possibly meet with you tomorrow if you would like to discuss any technical aspects and possibly install some software.

Blog input from Shauna: OK, so we just finished our very important second meeting where important things were decided such as our team name (Don't Call Us Productions) and which genres we like and which ones make us want to run away...screaming. So far, it looks as if we can handle anything they throw at us...you know because we're professionals and all. Yeah so, that's about all I have to report this week except to say that all is ticking along quite nicely and we are really looking forward to a full-on couple of days come the 18th to the 20th of May.
